About us

We are a gospel-centred church that raises up disciples of Jesus who grow together in love for God, for one another, and for the city of Edinburgh.

Our vision

Our desire is to see a city-wide movement of the Gospel where people find and follow Jesus, love God, serve the church, and work for the good of Edinburgh, Scotland, and the World.

Our values

Renewed in

Worship

Our gathered life.

We gather on Sunday to meet with God in Word and Sacrament and we leave renewed by his grace to go back into the city.

Shaped by the

Word

Our foundation and lens.

We devote ourselves to Scripture, not as a rulebook or a self-improvement guide, but as the Word of God that speaks today of the work of redemption.

Sustained through

Prayer

The rhythm we live by.

We come to God in prayer not as performers but dependent; helpless, expectant, and convinced that nothing happens without prayer.

Growing in

Community

The shared life of discipleship.

We open our doors, share our tables, and believe that the deepest discipleship happens not in programmes but in friendships — we make disciples who make disciples.

Serving the

City

The place God has given us to love.

We share our faith and meet the needs of our neighbours, convinced that love without Gospel communication is groundless and words without love are unconvincing.

Seeking a

Movement

The commitment to multiplication.

We train leaders who train leaders and plant churches that plant churches, because we desire not only to grow but to multiply.

Our faith

Find and follow Jesus

We believe there is one God who made us, loves us, and calls us to know him. Yet all of us have turned away from him, choosing to live life on our own terms. The Bible calls this sin, and it leaves us separated from God and unable to save ourselves. But God has not left us there.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world to do for us what we could never do for ourselves. He lived the life we have failed to live, died on the cross in the place of sinners, and rose again from the dead. Through faith in Jesus, our sins can be forgiven, our relationship with God restored, and our lives made new.

Jesus is not simply someone to admire. He is the risen King to follow. So join us in coming to Jesus, following Jesus, and discovering the joy of living life for him with his people – for the glory of God and good of our city.

Our history

From our beginnings as the Gaelic Chapel of Edinburgh in 1769, under the shadow of the castle, to becoming a fully-sanctioned church in 1835, St Columba’s has existed for more than two centuries with a single purpose: to see the people of Edinburgh find and follow Jesus. The words spoken at our fiftieth anniversary still hold true: ‘our work in this house is not yet done.’
